No More Food Stains in Plastic Storage Containers

containers (tupperware, etc...) before storing food in them, you can prevent stains from sauces, etc...

Beat the Summer Heat --- Place a fan in the doorway!
Today I read a handy tip about fan placement in the house, which will also help keep a/c cooling costs
down. Place your fan in your open basement doorway facing your living space (unless you have a lot of mold or radon levels down there). This will pull cool air from the basement and into the upstairs level.

Farmer's Market Bargains
shop toward the end of the day because you might just get some great deals on the produce
that the vendors don't want to pack up and lug back from where they came. It's easier to
just get rid of them at bargain prices. Give it a try!

Why white food is bad for you
Today I read that a Harvard University study found that eating several servings of white rice weekly increased the risk of diabetes, compared to those who ate only a little, or avoided it altogether. Another study showed that those who consumed brown rice were 11% less likely to get diabetes. The production of white rice involves stripping all the good stuff out of brown rice (such as bran and germ), leaving the white rice to be converted into blood sugar much more quickly in your body than brown rice would (this is a bad thing). Also, the fiber nutrients that are stripped from the brown rice are known to stave off diabetes.

Water , Water, everywhere...
Just as I had suspected, today I read that it IS possible to drink too much water.
According to a source at Sanford University of South Dakota Medical Center, your kidneys can't process any more than 34 ounces of water in an hour. Overhydrating to dangerous levels can cause swelling in the brain, seizures, and coma. This happens when your sodium/electrolyte levels are thrown out of whack.
To read more about hyponatremia and water intoxication, go to The Mayo Clinic and Discovery Health.

Smells like fish?
My comments about staying away from fish that "smells fishy" are often met with puzzled looks or smarty pants remarks such as "It's fish. What do you expect it to smell like?" Well, today I read that culinary students are taught that FRESH fish smells like the water it was swimming in. OLD fish smells like fish. And there you have it.
Kill weeds with Vinegar
Today I read that if you spray white vinegar on the weeds in your garden , or those growing through
the cracks of your sidewalk , the weeds will be dead in just a few days. You'll also be happy knowing that you used something that was environmentally friendly and won't harm your children or pets either.
